What do you think about the pressures on women to look a certain way?
I think that women have ALWAYS been pressured to look a certain. Not the men are immune from such pressures, but they fall heavier on women.
Do you feel as if the position of women in academia has changed greatly, or is there still a long way to go?
I think that the position of women HAS changed a lot (my own teachers did not even have maternity leave, people just filled in their lectures for them around the time of the birth). But there is still a long way to go (promotion, pay)
For you, what’s the most important value you could instil in your students?
I want to instil in my students a combination of confidence and humility! And a refusal to be battered by the system.
What do you think young feminists can do to make a change?
Young feminists should keep up the fight, while remembering that things aren’t always as simple as they seem!
What’s your opinion on the current political climate?
I am a little gloomy about the current political climate, to put it mildly!
